A Conference on Law and Corporate Social Responsibility

International Bar Association Conference on Law and Corporate Social ResponsibilityIt used to be that the links between corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) and the law were not so clear. Practitioners in the field were few and far between and often faced considerable challenges in defining their roles and expertise to both internal and external stakeholders.

It is clear that times are changing. On September 19, many practitioners in the field of CSR and the law will gather in London for a conference hosted by the International Bar Association on “The CSR Lawyer: Corporate Social Responsibility as an Emerging Field of the Legal Profession.” Speakers and attendees will include both in-house and external counsel and expected topics will range from business and human rights to ethical sourcing and lending.

Specific sessions at the conference will include:

  • The Legal Landscape of CSR
  • Spheres of Legal Liability for CSR Issues, Focusing on Human Rights
  • The CSR Lawyer as Counselor: Due Diligence and Mergers & Acquisitions
  • In-House Counsel Forum
  • Sector-Specific Discussions: Natural Resources and IT/Telecommunications

I am excited to be moderating the panel on due diligence and mergers & acquisitions, which will include in-house counsel from Chevron, Nestlé, and Rio Tinto.

More information on the conference and registration can be found here.
